Religious Education

At Daresbury Primary School, we believe Religious Education plays an important role in helping children understand the diverse world in which they live. Our RE curriculum develops pupils’ knowledge and understanding of religious and non-religious worldviews, while encouraging curiosity, reflection, respect and thoughtful discussion.

We use the Oak National Academy RE curriculum, which provides a carefully sequenced, knowledge and vocabulary-rich approach. Children build on their prior learning as they move through school, revisiting important concepts in increasingly greater depth. They encounter a range of religious and non-religious worldviews and learn that there is diversity both between and within different religions and beliefs.

Children develop their understanding through different ways of exploring RE, including theology, philosophy and social science. This encourages them not only to develop secure knowledge, but also to ask meaningful questions, explore beliefs and traditions, consider how people live out their beliefs, and reflect on different perspectives and their own experiences.

In EYFS, learning about religions, beliefs, celebrations and different communities is developed through Understanding the World, providing important foundations for future learning in RE.

At Daresbury, RE is an important part of our wider Personal Development provision and supports our children to SHINE as Safe, Healthy, Independent, Nurturing and Exploring individuals. Through RE, children develop respect and understanding for people whose beliefs, traditions and experiences may be different from their own, helping to prepare them to live positively in modern Britain and the wider world.

We continue to foster strong links with local places of worship and value opportunities for children to enrich their classroom learning through visitors, artefacts and first-hand experiences. We have particularly strong links with All Saints’ Church, Daresbury, and regularly welcome the vicar into school to lead assemblies and contribute to the wider life of our school community.

Through a combination of a carefully sequenced curriculum, meaningful discussion and wider experiences, we aim to develop children who are knowledgeable, curious and respectful, with the confidence to discuss and understand the diverse religious and non-religious worldviews they will encounter throughout their lives.
