Computing

Given the importance of technology in modern culture, we believe that all children must learn "computational thinking" if they are to be able to interact with technology responsibly and successfully. A high-quality computing education equips pupils to use creativity to understand and change the world. Computing offers insights into both natural and artificial systems and has close ties to mathematics, science, design, and technology. Computer science is the foundation of computing, and students are introduced to a variety of devices in this subject, including laptop computers, ipads, and interactive whiteboards, allowing them to continually practise and advance the skills they acquire. This ensures they become digitally literate so that they are able to express themselves and develop their ideas through information and computer technology– at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world. We deliver a curriculum that prepares students to be effective computer users who can:

  • Understand and apply the fundamental ideas and concepts of computer science, such as logic, algorithms, and data representation.
  • Examine problems from a computational perspective, and have repeated practical experience of creating computer programmes to solve such problems.
  • Analytically assess and use information technology to address issues.
  • Effectively convey concepts by utilising a range of tools such as Seesaw, keynotes, Doink Green-screen, and Chatterpix across all areas of the curriculum.

Additionally, online safety is expressly taught in our curricula. In accordance with our E-Safety Policy, teachers and students are given guidance on how to use the Internet safely. Every year group participates in lessons on e-safety and children understand how to stay safe when using technology.

From Autumn 2022 we have introduced Purple Mash as a scheme to support teachers in delivering our computing curriculum.
